How can I convince my parents to get my braces off early?

I never wanted braces. I think they are a vain thing because all they do is put a person through pain to get false beauty. I miss my old teeth, the teeth that were a part of me. I like to show people exactly who I am. When I smile or when people see my year book pictures, I have to explain to them my dad made me get the braces and I didn’t want them. My dad’s parents never could afford braces for him so I have to suffer for his insecurities and vanity. I have physical and mental pain for something I never wanted. I found out that if I got my braces off early that my teeth would go back to what they were. I also found that once I get a retainer, if I waited, then I could just not wear my retainer and my teeth would fix themselves that way too. I don’t want to wait. I want a good argument to convince my parents to get my braces off early. I have no idea how to do it since they already paid $4,100 dollars for it. I don’t think they would get that money back because it was a down payment, just the initial fee when the rest would be a lot more. Can you help me at all, even just help me to get through it if you don’t have a good argument?

Don’t worry - it’ll stay open forever… lol. We don’t close questions unless they’re breaking the terms of service. And who knows - other people may see it and share their experiences along the way. Good luck with your braces… I hope they’re not too uncomfortable.

well thank you for understanding! As it turns out I already gave them the argument about that and they still said no. I think I can wait, no pain no gain. Anyone know how to close the question?

You know, you’ve already given a pretty good argument within your question above. Can you not sit down with your mom or dad and tell them exactly what you’ve written here? You sound very sensible and articulate. If its hard to talk to them, why not print it out for them to read?

Sometimes parents do make the mistake of trying to live through their kids, and they don’t realize it until it’s brought to their attention.

The possibility of saving more money for them surely would be influential. But your unhappiness might be the deciding factor.

The other thing you can do is some research on orthodontics. Find out all you can, good and bad.
