How can hymens break- with a 4inch finger inserted completely?

My boyfriend has inserted his middle finger all the way up to the hilt into my vagina. I didn’t feel any pain and he says that he didn’t feel any resistance. The only time he had difficulty inserting his finger into my vagina was when I wasn’t wet. It would be painful for me then. I want to know- is my hymen still intact? I have read up on a few websites and almost all of them stress that the hymen can be broken by excessive sport, horseriding, bikeriding, etc. They also say that the hymen is a ‘ring’ around the opening of the vagina and that it ‘erodes’ the more you masturbate (by fingering or by inserting objects into the vagina). People say that the hymen breaking doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re not a virgin anymore, but still. I want to know. Please help.
