NUMBER ONE RULE: PUT DOWN YOUR BRUSH.

And don’t you ever brush again! Brushing will only damage your curls and make them frizzy. And frizziness is usually associated with dryness. Sounds like your curls are dehydrated.

Are you using shampoo? The answer that most people would give would be “yes.” Well, I want to challenge you to stop using it. That’s right! Check the ingredients. If it has “sodium laureth sulfate” or “ammonium lauryl sulfate” or any kind of “sulfate”, it’s drying your hair out! Even curly hair shampoos have it. It’s used in dishsoap and laundry detergent, and you know what laundry detergent does to clothes after a while! It’s also damaging to hair–it strips it of it’s moisture. So why do shampoo people put it in? It creates a lather, and women associate “lather” with “clean.” Shampoo has almost no benefits. There is no such thing as a moisturizing shampoo. They just add silicones, a weird, plastic coating that suffocates hair, into the shampoo to hide split ends and make your hair look healthy when it’s actually killing your hair. But we’ll get to that later.

I also have curly hair, and I started doing something called “The Curly Girl method.” I learned about it on naturallycurly.com. You should go there! It really saved my curls, and now my curls look so beautiful and frizz-less! My curls were frizzed out, and I started washing my hair with light conditioner (Suave or V05). Massage it for 2 minutes under running water. Then use a heavier conditioner, such as Generic Value Products Conditioning Balm (it’s a generic version of Biolage Conditioning Balm –same ingredients and everything–available at Sally Beauty Supply). MAKE SURE THE THICKER CONDITIONER YOU CHOOSE DOES NOT HAVE SILICONES. ANYTHING THAT ENDS IN -CONE OR -XANE IS A SILICONE.

Silicone: A coating that is mostly in conditioners and styling products, but can be found in shampoo. It covers your hair and suffocates it, hiding split ends and making your hair look healthier than it is. It really makes your hair look horrible in the long run.

So, make sure your conditioner doesn’t contain any silicones at all! Aura Cherry Bark conditioner is also available at Sally Beauty Supply, and is silicone-free. Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition is silicone free also.

Next, don’t ever use a terrycloth towel to dry your hair or a brush on your hair again!!! It will just provoke frizziness. Take it from me…I understand. I have curly hair that I love to death now that I went CG (did the curly girl method). If you need to dry your hair, scrunch the water out with a flour sack towel, cotton t-shirt, or a microfiber towel.

Be very, very choosy in your styling products. A lot of them contain silicones. I like Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel. I also use Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper (REALLY helps with frizz), and AG Re:coil Curl Activating Balm. I also like Jessicurl Products, which contain no silicones or sulfates!

Always check the label.

AND PLEASE GO TO NATURALLYCURLY.COM. It saved my curls! You just need to know how to take care of them. “Curly” shouldn’t always be associated with “frizzy.” You can have beautiful curls if you take care of them.

Don’t expect results from the Curly Girl method too quickly! It takes a month or so for it to kick in. Doing the CG method was the best possible thing I could’ve ever done for my hair. I love it!

Embrace your curls! Love them in a straight-hair loving society!

If your hair is naturally curly, the first thing you want to do is check ingredients on the products you’re using. Don’t wash your hair with shampoos that contain sodium laureth/lauryl or ammonium laureth/lauryl sulfate. These ingredients are fine for normal hair to oily hair, but on frizzy hair they can strip natural oils and dry your hair out more. That only makes your poofy hair worse! Most organic shampoos don’t have these products in them, so check them out.

After you shower, use only a wide toothed comb or pick to get out tangles. If you use a brush, it will only make your hair poofier.

Use a moisturizing conditioner that has good feedback for dry, course hair.

Try not to use products that contain Silicones. They can build up on your hair and then you’ll need a sulfate to remove them and they can dry your hair out even more. How do you know if you’re using Silicones? Any ingredient that ends in ‘cone’ or ‘xane’ is a silicone. Common silicones are Dimethicone, Cylmethicone, and Amodimethicone. If your product contains Amodimethicone, it is not as hard to remove as the other two and is considered less harmful to your hair.

Don’t blow dry your hair directly if you can. Use a diffuser when you blow dry your hair or let your hair dry naturally. If you must use your blow dryer, at least always use the warm or cool setting only.

Use leave in conditioners like Infusium Leave In Conditioner, as they add a protective layer on the cuticle of your hair. This helps weigh down your hair (in a sense) and that helps to pull out the curls.

First off is your name Kisa or is it from Fruit basket?

Secoundly you can but softening gel stuff, to make it silky and smooth. My sister uses it every now and then and I can tell the diffrence.

It’s next to the hair dye.

Also you could order when, I think funadvice is spelling it When but its spelt W then e then n. You have to order it off the internet. It doesn’t have harsh chemicals that make your hair dry out. It leaves all the natural oils in. It should make it softer and shinier.
