There is no set amount of hours. Some people can pick up instruments very quickly, some people need constant practice for years. It depends on your coordination, the amount of time and dedication you put into it, etc. Just a hint, though, if you want to learn guitar-my friend took lesson and I didn't; she was playing the entire "Wish You Were Here" while I was still trying to teach myself a basic version of "Smoke on the Water".
I agree: around 10,000 hours is the recognized time that virtuoso musicians usually claim it took them to achieve their own standards of perfection. This is largely independent of what instrument they happen to master.

Nobody will ever be perfect at guitar, or any other instrument. In the world of music, there can never be a point where if you reach it, you are 'perfect' at playing. You will always be learning, every day.
I think that this might be a question that only Eric Clapton or B B King could answer- 2 of my guitar heroes !!
Is 'perfection' a song, or do you mean learning guitar so that you are perfect at playing?
