horse age

How old do horses normally live to be? what is a good age to get a horse at?

Answer #1

I had a Morgan mare my dad got me when we were both 7…we were 35 when she passed away. Lots of horses live till 30+ years…

5 or 6 is a good age to buy a horse…usually already broke, with a few miles under them…and a long life ahead of them.

It really depends on how experienced you are and how experienced the horse is. When I was looking into getting my first horse I had help from a friend, she told me to get a horse around 4 years, due to me not being a very experienced rider and the horse I was looking at was trained in endurance and was an all around good horse except for his feet. It’s hard to decipher a certain age. If you want a horse that is broke it needs to be two years before that can even happen.

I have got a pony thats 22 this year but is still very strong and struggle to control her. they can live up to 35-45 years of age if there looked after properly and the best age to get a pony/horse is about 9/10 years because that is when they are at their prime(best)
