I don’t encourage people to keep exotic animals as pets. Having a monkey isn’t recommended for novices.

Depending on where you live, it can also be illegal. A quick check shows that 19 states currently have absolute bans on ownership, sales and importation of pet monkeys. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Wyoming all ban private monkey ownership.

Some people also try to sell you cute little monkeys as scams for your money.

Even monkeys in a professional captivity environment need A LOT of roaming space, the right diet, medical care with on-hand vets, and stringent professional training if they were to be used as a meet-and-greet monkey in places like zoos.

Untrained monkeys can bite and get even more hostile as they mature. They might also already carry certain diseases with them when you purchase them.

I do not recommend that you get a pet monkey unless it’s legal and if you’ve been working with or are trained to handle them for many years.

I have a capuchin. Yes they do need lots of attention. They are similiar to children, if you are not ready or cannot handle a child I don’t suggest a capuchin. They are life committments, As for a cage or room? They do need some area that is their area, some people use large parrot cages inside, which work fine, others create monkey rooms which need to be monkey proof and can cost a lot more than a cage. They also need an enclosure outside since they need sunshine to produce their vitamin D. Again this can be as elaborate as your pocket allows to the basic minimum 6 x 6 x 6

some great sites to check out www.monkeyzone.com and www.primatestore.com

I Googled up “Monkey Ownership” on the net, not that long ago…just because people here have them, and it was interesting…

I came away, tho…glad I don’t have one…they need A LOT of attention…and it appears that as they mature, they become aggressive…that’s nearly all of them.
