Can a sick ferret make my dog sick?

Can a sick ferret make my dog sick?

Answer #1

Ferrets that are not vaccinated against Canine Distemper - it is an airborne disease that can be brought in from outdoors on your shoes and clothing, is fatal in ferrets, and dogs are susceptible to canine distemper if not vaccinated. Both ferrets and dogs need necessary vaccinations in the first few months after birth.

Answer #2

No…there are very few diseases that cross species lines…Rabies is the only one I can think of this moment, tho, I’m sure there are a few others…but generally speaking, if your dog is sick and your ferret is sick, you have two different problems going on.

In most cases no but you still want to keep them apart till your ferret gets better. And remember that if your ferret has the flu you can get it to so wash your hands after handeling him/her. Take it to the vet. At most they will tell you baby benadryl or a ferret med. Hope he/she gets better!
