Do I need to lose weight?

I weigh 140 and I’m 5ft3 do I need to lose weight?

Answer #1

Just to confirm that there is no such thing as ‘The right weight’! Even the BMI is just a medical guide but one that works out correct for by far the majority of people.

Often, those who think they need to lose weight, just need to tone up a bit.

im 5 foot flat. and I weigh just under 140. nooo you do not need to lose weight. I just weigh this much because first of all im short and second of all I have a lot of muscle..im in cross country..and soccer year round. if your in sports or something you really have nothing to worry about. muscle weighs more than fat.

I think that if you feel you need to lose weight that you should do something about it. It will make you feel better that you are going to do something. I joined a gym and am eating right because I feel that I need to lose weight and I feel better that I am doing that. Hope this helps. Remember though, if you are comfortable with your body don’t change it for others.

Answer #4

No. You don’t =). Your BMI (Body Mass Index) calculates to 24.8. You are normal weight. Be proud of that.

*  Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
* Overweight = 25-29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

listen to kiasu.

plus im sorry but BMI is not completely accurate. Base your weight on what your eating and how much you exercise.

think about it. bmi means body mass index. …body MASS not whether or not its made of fat or muscle. you could be considered overweight on the bmi chart but actually just be made of lots of muscle.

so just base it off of how much muscle compared to fat you have. 140 is a bit overweight for your height. to be honest. but you could be made of complete muscle so I cant speak you know? if you dont work out, then yes that is overweight,…but definietly not obese or anything so dont worrry.

:)

Answer #6

mmkay so. im not saying you should lose some weight. that is considered over weight for that height. but it is’nt much over weight. if you are happy at this weight you should not change it just because someone else says its over weight. but if you do want to get to the “right” weight. it is around 115 pounds. but if you do decide do lose weight, BE HEALTHY ABOUT IT. just change your diet a bit, and exercise a bit more.

hope I helped :] love y’all<3

Answer #7

Just to clarify what Lisa has said, the BMI is a good guide and muscle vs. fat IS taken into account in this. Hence there is a range rather than a set figure.

This range for Ideal is between 18.5 & 25 The range for overweight is between 25 & 30

Anything less than 18.5 on the BMI is classed as underweight.

As you can see, there is a wide range for each group and this is because muscle/fat IS taken into account.

And as I said earlier, there is no such thing as ‘The right weight’ but there IS such a thing as an UNHEALTHY weight!

Again Lisa, please refrain from giving misleading information.
