Head Over Heels OR Heels Over Head??

Why do people say head over heels in love? Aren’t we all head over heels because our head is over our feet.? Shouldn’t it be heels over head? LOL I just wanted to know what you thought.

it’s a fairly obvious metaphor. like turning a cartwheel - head over heels - because you’re so in love (or whatever).

the phrase originated in the late 18th century. Davy Crockett used the phrase in 1834: “I soon found myself head over heels in love with this girl”
