What can I do to handle my dog?

Before my baby came into my life my wiener dog was my baby. Now the baby is around he was at first protective of the baby which was cute but now he is too protective. He barks at everything that walks by the house, if you go near the baby’s room he will growl and show his teeth. He wont attack the baby, but I wish he could be protective in other ways. Someone help me out.

It could be that your dog thinks that your baby is his baby. My friends dog was given a small toy for its birthday by my friend, and it thought it was its own baby. I can’t actually remember what the sort of condition is called where the dog thinks it is its baby though. But his dog wouldn’t let anyone touch the cuddly toy, or go near it, or have anything to do with it. It would bark, scratch or even try and bite you if you went near it. Which is why I think it is similar to your dog! What my friend did, was when their dog wasn’t looking, they would take the toy from the dog. I know it sounds mean, but it helped. After about a month, the dog started to not be fond of the toy, she still played with it, but not as if it is her baby. So maybe, you could try not letting your dog see your baby as much, not be in as much contact as it usually is and hopefully after a while but not too long, your dog will be how it used to be :-) I hope this helps and that picture of your baby is soo cute :3!

You need to be the top dog of the house (lol) and tell it NO when it behaves in ways that you find unacceptable… Maybe read some Caesar Malone books or something? that’s the dog whisperer’s name right…. :p

Answer #3

Lol thank you so much and I dont know if Male dogs can have that condition because they usually don’t grow attachment to their own children, but I shall look into it.

Answer #4

Yes he is well trained and I do tell him no with the barking which he stops shortly after but will continue if he hears people. I have read alot of his books and they helped me train my dogs however he isnt listening when he is in this protective mode.
