Hamster Help!!

I bought a syrian hamster around july 2008, everything was going fine untill sunday 15th march 2009. The hamsterwas healthy, running around a lot, in its wheel, fed and waterd well. We woke up to find it stone cold, soaking, curled up in a ball. We thought it had died at first but its still breathing shallow’ly. It has blood in its urine and on its anus. If we give it water whilst it is curled up, it gets up and has a sprint about for 5 minutes then goes back to howit was. obvious concern for my pets health, any answers? Thanks.

Hiya,

It sounds like it could be wet tail, which is a gastrointestinal disease that is usually fatal to hamsters. The main thing that brings it on is stress…is it having a lot of diarrhea? It sounds silly but you can get medicine for it from a vet or pet supermarket / petco, etc. if you’d like to try to save the little guy.

YOU NEED A VET, wet tail is a serious intestinal disease with is very uncomfatable and can irritate your hamster. your hamster will need antibiotics, it will also help if you keep your hamster warm and clean. unfortunately hamsters can still die even when treated. often as soon as 48 hours after symtons have gotten better. there is a higher chance of a hamster getting wet tail if its family have had it.
