I have really thick hair too I used to use a sedu one but it broke after a year. Then I bought a corioliss which I have had for two years and it works very well.

use wet to straight by Remington it cheap like 40$ and it has different levels from really thin to really thick they sell it at either macys or jcpenny its the best and it makes it soft and shiny

I have the kiyoseki styler. its pretty expensive but totally worth it it heats up in about 2seconds flat and the max temp. is 410 degrees it also curls and is very portable

chi is really good. its kinda expensive but totally worth it. if you want cheaper the use conair its not the best but it works for me. =]
