Hair help - diy highlights?

I need as many opinions as possible from those who have done this please :)

I want to have some highlights in my hair. Not light blonde, as I think blonde highlights in my (dyed) dark brown hair would look tacky. I just want light brown/dark blondish pieces throughout my hair to lighten the overall look.

Having my hair one block colour of dark brown when I’m naturally fair headed, is a bit overpowering. I want to very gradually get back to a blonde colour. I can’t afford to go to a salon. I would if I could.

My question is - should I attempt highlighting my own hair at home? Or is it too difficult to do it yourself (I don’t have anyone to help me) And should I just leave my hair alone for several months til I have money?

um what..??

I highlight my own hair, but I have a special cap and brush for it. I pull what hair I want highlighted and then the rest is covered by that cap. It only costs about 4 busks for everything,

Don’t use a cap! Just get two highlighting brushes, two hair colors or highlights in a box, foil and a trusted friend! You can also do them your self by sectioning of your hair, going from the bottom and working your way up. Since you are trying to go back to blonde I say do a base color a shade ligher every 6 weeks and then follow up with some highlights 1 to 2 weeks later. As long as you have some mirrors you can easily move and put in place you should have no problem doing it yourself at all.

lol Intense you get really strange people abusing you on your post for no reasons at all, wackos I think these idiots are.

if your going for a light brownish / darkish blonde should be ok to DIY, but select a semi rinse or semi permanent as the colour will fade a lot quicker if you do not like the result.

Loreal has one particular colour application, where they supply you with a comb and the colour is combed into the strands that you have selected…never used it so I cannot guarantee how effective it is.

I heard about those caps from a friend of mine. I have very long hair and she said you can only really use them for short hair, as it hurts when pulling long pieces through it and can end up in a tangled mess? I was thinking of using bits of foil like they do in the hairdresser…just not sure how hard/easy it would be…

Answer #6

I heard that whose hair loose they are looser you think that I have a bad advice then urs are not bad but the wearst idiot sorry 2 say but you sarted first

Answer #7

I just did splices through my sisters hair for the first time, it looks good and when she wears it up it looks like chunks so she is impressed and it was my first time I just looked at what my hair dresser did and tried it at home. Now I can do my own colour at home and oh my goodness its so much CHEAPER!!!
