Why does the government not have a better health care plan for the elderly?

Answer #1

because it’s too expensive. the cost of medications, long term care and hospital expenses are astronomical compared to the rest of the population. Virtually all senior citizens have several chronic conditions which require expensive medications.

Answer #2

The elderly actually have better health care than many younger Americans.

Medicare is a single payer system that covers Americans over 65 who have been residents for the previous 5 years and have themselves or their spouse paid Medicare taxes for 10 years.

Medicare certainly has it’s problems but it is far better than what is available to younger people with chronic health problems who don’t enjoy an employer provided plan.

The main problem with Medicare is that it is going broke. The aging population plus the fact that medical expenses have been rising much faster than inflation for decades means something will have to be done or Medicare will crash and burn in a few decades. We have to find ways to reduce health care costs or they will bankrupt us and not just Medicare. Health care in general is so expensive that it drags down the rest of our economy.

Answer #3

Medicare is the government-run medical services, while Medicaid provides financial assistance. However, many Americans feel that the government health care programs are not enough to cover the health needs of all its people, particularly those with long term care needs. you may read this article http://funadvice.com/r/15gbenred1b
