Goldfish looks and acts sick

We have had this fan tale gold fish for about a yr maybe… Last night I noticed it was floating on its side and would struggle to swim and keep upright, I thought for sure it would die within hrs. I had a friend last night suggest putting in a teaspoon of salt to the tank(its only a 2-3 gal tank with ariater.) I did that thinking it cant be any worse than it is and today the fish seems to be swimming upright and fine, but still moving slow and just not acting right. its color seems faded and its like its lost scales, but I cant tell really…what could be wrong with it?

I think it may be your goldfish’s time to go soon. Sometimes it can take a few days of them looking like a sorry sight until their time is up.

Have you tried seeing if it has any infection like white spot or something? It’s been awhile since I reared fish but aquariums/pet shops usually sell these liquid medication that you pour a capful (according to the tank size) into the water. There are many types of these medications, so maybe you can take a look at the descriptions to see if any fit your goldfish.
