I really need some help. My husband refuses to go to a professional to get his hair colored. He tried to put blonde in his hair he actually turned his hair RED...it was terrible..so I ended up dying it back to his color. I went to Sally's they suggested this stuff called Red X but, it did not work...Can anyone give me suggestions??? He is a darker brown with Red Highlights....
Orrrr, you know on second thought....go to sally's, buy the shade of blonde that he wants, buy a 30 or 40 volume peroxide and color it again.
It turned red because the peroxide was too weak/he didn't leave it in long enough/the blonde shade wasn't blonde enough. A host of reasons. But if you color it again using a good peroxide, it should lighten right up. Just remember to buy gloves and a color applicaiton bottle and use equal parts peroxide vs. color. Brown hair turns red before it turns blonde, it's a part of the process to lighten it. You need to keep going with stronger product to get desired results.
But seriously, this is why there are professionals like us. It's confusing for regular folk. Just make him go to a damn salon ;).

Second. Go to Sally's, find a shade of his natural haircolor with a GREEN base color to it. It will say it on the front, on the label underneath the name of the color (ex: Sunset Brown Base: Green). Green cuts red, red cuts green. Try the clairol brands--they have green toners. The hair sample will look kind of dark khaki green and that's what we use to cut reds out. You just a shade of brown with some green to cut the red.
try to stripp it then dye it with a bleach kit! it works i went from black to blonde doing that!
