do you really get being gay from one of your parents ?

if so i wonder what one of mine is gay XD E

Theres been studies done that suggest that the “gay” gene is passed on through the mother - it doesnt mean she is gay though.

It doesnt work that way. And it isnt as clear cut as all that. Sexuality is not something you simply inherit. Because otherwise how do you explain bisexuality. Or identical twins who identify as having different sexualities. It isnt like hair color or eye color. You’re pretty much stuck with what you get with those. Sexuality lies on a range, it’s not as clear cut as we like to think it is. Also, while they’ve done research, if I remember correctly this was on gay men and they believe that the genetic passing down is through the mothers side because the mother’s family of gay men had higher rates of homosexuality, it doesnt mean that the mother is gay.

Answer #7

Good question. Researchers keep changing the idea. I don’t think they will ever know.
If all of life as we know it come from decisions, and if God gave us the freedom to make decisions about ourselves, others and those things around us, about the past, the present and the futrue, then who made the decision to be gay.

Answer #8

This is a good question, I was wondering the same thing a while ago. :)) Anyways I asked my friend and he said that being homosexual can’t be something genetic (something you’re born with) because of a study that was done on identical twins. Because the study of twins were identical, it is agreed that identical twins share same dna, or genetics. But in the end, one twin was gay, and the other wasn’t. So I say no, it’s not something you’re born with.

Answer #9

I dont think it is that simple. I think there is a genetic component, but also environmental factors, and then, just to confuse people, I think there is likely to be an epigenetic factor. Epigenetics is where the environment influences which of your genes are active. You can think of it like orchestral music, where the musical score is your DNA. All the information about the music is there. However, you also have a conductor, who is instructing the orchestra on how to play the music. Thats what epigenetics is like. Genes can be switched on or off depending on the environment.

Answer #10

Oh I think I see what you mean :) so with the the theory test that my friends told me, you’re saying that maybe the other twin had the gene, but it was “turned off” for him?

Answer #11

yes, exactly! Even identical twins end up different to some extent, even though they have the same DNA, and its possible that epigenetics accounts for that. Everyone has different experiences and are exposed to different environments and that can influence our genes
