What makes a person want to become gay?

It’s only going to be the deeply confused and the deeply religious (often the same thing) who are going to suggest that sexual orientation is a choice, and their reasons are twofold–

1. The Bible says that homosexuality is “an abomination.” Obviously, if God is a loving God, he would give you the option NOT to be an abomination, and therefore, it must be a choice.
2. Those that live their lives through faith can only do so if their faith gives them some pretty clear-cut guidelines on how to live, and so the extremely religious tend to see the world through lenses of black and white. “This action is good because my faiths tells me so. This action is bad because my faith tells me so.” Something unusual, something frightening, or something they simply do not understand usually gets lumped into the “bad” category.

Unfortunately, faith and science tend not to go hand in hand very often, and virtually every scientific study performed regarding the origins of homosexuality point to genetic origins, much to the religious right’s chagrin. Being straight or gay is as much a choice as hair color and height.

And for those who will tell you that being gay is unnatural, you may calmly answer back that gayness occurs just as often in the animal kingdom as it does in humans. It’s simply a part of having DNA.

Same thing that makes people want to be straight… You dont become gay, loads of scientific evidence pointing to genetics, you are born with those genes… ofcourse there’s probably some environmental influence… You find people of the opposite sex attractive, gay people find people of the same sex attractive. It is as simple as that… And honestly if you think about it, how can it be a choice? Who would choose to live with prejudice and stigma? And what about closeted homosexuals? If it’s a choice then why not just choose to be straight, why live in the closet, sometimes your whole life?

A person just doesn’t want to be gay or become gay. They’re usually born that way. My best friend is gay and I was shocked to find out cause he totally dated a girl and only hung around girls. But he told me and I was like woah…but you dated so and so? and he was like yeah, but I thought she could make me not like guys… he said he’s always like guys, but he tried to deny that feeling. People don’t choose to be gay, they are gay. Now…a person could have a fantasy about being with the same sex, but that doesn’t make them gay…I don’t think.♥

I dont think its a question of just ‘wanting’ to become gay and I dont believe that you are born gay. maybe its just in the way you look at people. people can be attracted to other people that you would normally not.its only when those people are of the same gender that we want to question it. you cant help who you fall in love with, and I think thats the case. and once you have found happiness in a gay relationship, the stigma and awkwardness of it all no longer makes you shy away from the thought. you are then more open to the possibility of it. I have proudly ‘tried’, for lack of a better word, this theory myself, and found that I do in fact love someone who is also a female, but have not had the need to look at others. I feel I am straight, but if in love with a person, I dont care whether they are male or female. did that help?

You can’t make anybody gay, just like you can’t make anybody straight! If you are attracted to somebody you can’t tell yourself your not! If you are a guy and you like guys it doesn’t mean you wanted to be that way!
