I just found this article at ourohio.org:

how can I get rid of mold in the garden? Help! For some reason, my garden seems to be getting a lot of mold this year. It starts off as a bright yellow patch, then turns a kind of ivory color, then rapidly spreads here and there throughout my garden. I’ve tried using commercial fungicides, but have had limited success. Where is this mold coming from and how can I get rid of it permanently?

This mold is a slime mold - scientifically named Fuligo septica. In the garden world it is known as ‘dog vomit fungus’. The most common place to see this type of mold is in mulched areas around homes and businesses, but it can also appear in forested areas. This slime mold thrives in moist mulch and can appear almost overnight. It usually starts out as a yellow/orange color. It then turns hard and will finally break open and send its spores out to create more mold. In the garden we typically see this slime mold after heavy rains or after watering too much.

The good news is that there are no known dangers to plants or animals by inhalation or consumption. However, the bad news is that there is nothing you can do to get rid of it. Chemicals have no effect on this disgusting slime mold, so trying to change their environment is your best bet. Try running a rake through the mulch to loosen it up a bit. This lets more air flow through which will dry it out and help to get rid of it. You can also take a shovel and try removing the slime mold from your garden. If you try that, make sure to put the mold into a bag and throw it away.
