Why is my frog being so lethargic?

I have an African dwarf frog who’s been in the tank for a couple of days now, but he won’t move and he won’t eat. There was a lot of ammonia in the tank according to a recent sample, but I got all of it out and then some. He could be in shock, but I have to wonder if he’s just lonely. He’s in there all by himself. Do you think he needs a friend, or is he not responding for other reasons.

I am told they are quite social so it may have something to do with being alone but aside from that I am not very knowledgible about frogs!

Answer #6

Those are the albino clawed frogs correct? I had two of them in my old apartment and it was really trial and error with me. I had two of them though and they did wonderful together. What do you have at the bottom of the tank? Make sure you dont put the small pebbles down there….they will eat them and die..i found out the hard way. What are you feeding him? Mine didnt like dry food, they ate feeder fish. Thats when he was the most alive when he was targeting and chasing his food.

No claws silly, he’s a little bitty aquatic frog. the pebbles are rather big, but so is the tank for his size. He hasn’t eaten dry or wet food, but I think it’s because he’s lonely. I’m aiming to get him a play mate today :)

Answer #8

I’d read up on your frog and find out what water temperature, food and hiding places he needs. I don’t know if they’re social or not; you can read about other needs like that too. For good water quality: Drain off 1/4 of the water each month and replace with fresh water. Add some aquatic plants. Rinse off the gravel with cold (not hot) water every once in a while if it gets slimy.

Sorry for not reading other answers first. Looks like they are social :).
