What are the best fantasy books?

I am running out of books to read so some suggestions would be great. I’m not so into vampires because they are kind of freaky and give me nightmares, but willing to try anything else.

Answer #1

My favorite are the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan, and the Altera Imperia series by Jim Butcher, as well as the Belgariad by David & Leigh Eddings. Need more books to read at the moment though as I’m out.

Answer #2

I love j.R.R. Tolkien and I’m a huge R.A. Salvatore fan.

I’m not into the whole vampire thing either, but these authors concentrate on real fantasy - elves, dwarves, hobbits, dragons, etc.

Answer #5

Check out anything by Jack Vance… In my opinion, the greatest fantastist, and at the same time the greatest user of the English language to do so.

Answer #6

Watership Down by Richard Adams is one of my favorite books of all time. I’m not into fantasy books too much, especially about hobbits or dragons, but Watership Down is a good one for animal lovers. :)

I like the Yasmine Galenorn series Sisters of the Moon. Its about these sister Otherworld detectives who have to deal with multiple antagonist. It features the D’Artigo Sisters. Ones a Witch, ones a Werecat and the last is a Vampire. Its urban fantasy so you have all these paranormal creatures running wild in Washington State. The author sets up a strong political basis too, which is entertaining. The books are all about female empowerment really, however there’s multiple “hot” scenes and action scenes to entertain the male adult reader. That sounds really weird I know, but trust me. This series is really the only books I found that I find enjoyable and there’s multiple view points (each book in order is in the perspective of a different sister) and plenty off books to keep you busy for a while. I strongly recommend them. Hope that helps.
