What happens if your family member is in need of blood but your blood type is a different one; do they still expect you to share?

Answer #1

Only if they want the sick person to die or get worse from the blood not being a match. And even if they get mad, is not up to you but to a doctor. Once they find your blood is not a match then is a no brainer as your blood will be doing more harm than good.

Answer #2

i wouldnt think so, since they dont match and it could kill them as Ferdandez has said. im sure they will understand that you obviously can not help them with your blood, they will need to get blood from soemone who is the same blood type, but the hospital woud have or could get donated blood that is the same type as them

Answer #3

They don’t generally ask for a family member to offer blood at all - they just take from the blood bank.

Answer #4

In my country the minimum age for blood donation is 18. I have been a blood donor for several years. I stopped doing it when I got pregnant.

The people from red cross collect it because it is needed in hospitals. If you want to, you can go and ask the doctor if you can donate blood. If they use new, sterile needles, there is no risk in it at all. So your blood might help some other patient while your relative gets blood from another donor.

Giving blood that does not match to a person is both useless and very dangerous for the patient. Leave that decision to the doctor.

There is no way that they could make someone donate blood who doesn’t want to. I mean, it’s your blood. Your body. You decide. It makes no difference whether any of your relatives needs it. Donating blood is a good deed, because you can save somebodies life with it. But if you’re scared of donating or of you faint if you see blood, just don’t do it. Period.

Answer #5

Donating blood doesn’t work like that. Its a blood bank just like any other bank. You don’t expect to get back the same bill u deposited? When u give blood it is stored as 1pt. Don’t matter what blood type to you. They sort the blood by type and donate the type needed according to the number of donors the person needing the blood has. So for instance, I need 4pts O+ and I have family that donated 2pts A- and O-, I would receive from the blood bank 4pts O+ and the bank will have what my family donated for other people who are that type who’s family possibly donated 4pts O+. It does get confusing when you are a rare blood type. If the type is rare, then chances are the donors are rare too. By the way, donating is good for you. Do it every 4 mths with a bank that allows you to keep a balance so that you could stock for emergencies.
