Would having one facial piercing (eyebrow) cloud my chances of finding a desk job, in general?

I want to find an office job, secretary or something similar. I know every company is different, but I wanted to know in general because I was planning on getting an eyebrow piercing.

Answer #1

Like you said depends on the company but in general no but I would still ask if called in for an interview, they may just say you can’t wear it to work

Answer #2

Prob.

Answer #3

At an office type job, they’d probably want you to take it out, or pass judgement and not higher you, which is kindof illegal, I mean even if you worked at a fastfood place, they’d want you to either take it out or put a bandaid over it even!

Answer #4

Put it this way…it would not enhance your chances

Answer #5

Yes it would, most companies want to project a certain image and generally that does not include facial piercings. I suggest that if you do get one to take it out when you go for an interview as it would not give a good impression.

Piercings and tattoos are pretty dependant on the individual company and how much social interaction you will have with co-workers/customers in a position. Most companies tend to shy away from applicants with visible facial piercings and tattoos because it just does not look “clean”. The companies that often do hire these applicants usually will request their employees to either remove their piercing during work hours or cover them up with a form of material (in the case of tattoos).

In my particular job, we are allowed to have various piercings as long as we don’t have any of them hanging loose due to the fact that we are around heavy machinery and VERY SHARP materials. When I am near the conveyor belt and need to pull the tape from the rollers, it’s advised that I remove any watches or rings because if it gets stuck my fingers may be pulled under. Tattoos can be shown as long as you are wearing proper length shirts as well.

My sister works as a cashier at ULTA, a fashion store and the manager encourages her employees to show off piercings, jewelry, and tattoos because in her department, these things are all trendy and fashionable.

Answer #7

People with body modifications are not a protected group under the law. Companies can legally discriminate against any group that is not legally protected.

Answer #8

Depends on the company. There are people at my company with visible tattoos and piercings. Some other companies wouldn’t hire anyone with ink or exotic piercings. Being a baby boomer I’m not into body mods but even if I was I would play it safe and take it out for interviews.

Answer #9

They probably just wouldnt want you to wear it to work like Tammy said. Eyebrow piercings are yucky. =/ I wouldnt even ask about it, Id just never wear it to work or mention it. Im almost positive they’ll pick the girl with no facial piercings over you every time. -_-

How did I end up on an old ass question that I already answered? Damn
