Can someone explain ADD in detail?

Answer #1

like Attention Deficit Disorder ?? people who have this have dificulty sitting still, attending one thing for a long time, and they might seem over active.

Answer #2

Someone with A.D.D. is usually described as having a short attention span and as being easily distracted. No one knows exactly what causes it, however scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and results from a chemical imbalance or deficiency in certain neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that help the brain regulate behavior. http://funadvice.com/r/14quf430tnv

ttention Deficit Disorder, or ADD/ADHD, is a psychological term currently applied to anyone who meets the DSM IV diagnostic criteria for impulsivity, hyperactivity and/or inattention. The diagnostic criteria are subjective and include behavior which might be caused by a wide variety of factors, ranging from brain defects to allergies to giftedness. ADD, as currently defined, is a highly subjective description, not a specific disease. -From Google. (;

Now all types of this condition are referred to as ADHD or AD/HD including the non-hyperactive type. I believe the term to be a misnomer, I believe it is neither a deficit nor a disorder. I think of it as a different personality type. Many of the world’s most successful and influential individuals have, or are believed to have had ADHD. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison showed signs of ADHD; imagine how different the world would be if they were normal? The standard types are considered to be hyperactive, primarily inattentive, and combined. Hyperactive ADHD is characterized by individuals who seem to have too much energy and have trouble containing it. They are impulsive and tend not to think of the potential consequences of their actions and enjoy risk taking activities. Primarily Inattentive ADHD is characterized by individuals who have difficult staying on task for mundane or onstimulating demands. They tend to procrastinate, get side tracked by things they find more interesting, and not finish things they start. Combined type has characteristics of both types. Sometimes these types are further subdivided into types that also show characteristics of mood disorders, aggression or defiance but these aspects can also be considered other comorbid conditions. The common trait to all types is a need for more stimulation than usual. It is much harder for people with ADHD to deal with things they do not find stimulating. While those with ADHD have more trouble with things they do not find stimulating they also have the ability to hyper-focus on things that interest them. This ability can be an advantage for people who have to work on difficult problems. It has been estimated that 85% of computer professionals have ADHD. ADHD is believed to be caused by a shortage of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinepherine. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter associated with our reward center and allows us to feel satisfied with a job completed or well done. Norepinepherine is the fight or flight neurotransmitter and is necessary for us to narrow our focus when it is required of us.
