excaped hamster in the house

okk, we have two dwarf hamsters, a male and female…they both climbed the little rope(thats what I am guessing) their treats were hanging on and got out yesterday.
I searched all over and just thought that on their own they would turn up, well, one did(the female) but I have seen nothing of the male. I just assumed by now he would show up…he has got to be still in the house, but what can I do to find him and lure him out…I’m getting worried…BTW, the two cats we have are with my older two kids w/ their dad right now, so they arent in the house.

One other thing, would a hamster go too far? He wouldnt be able to make it to the basement or another part of the house would he? I’m just trying to localize where he might be from where the cage is he excaped from. For him to get to the basement of coarse he would have to go down several steps…AHHH! LOL Driving me nuts! !LOL

umm what I did was put a water bottle thing on the ground in the room he usually stays in… then you wait for him to take the bait of drinking water… this is probably going to happen @ night… then you throw like a blanket over him and scoop that little guy up… be careful, it might take a few times if you aren’t stealthy enough

I made a trap when this happened to me , you could do one in each level of your house : make some ‘steps’ with books, reaching the top of a large plastic tub or box with no lid (or if the lid comes off your cage use that) . At the top balance a thin book carefully on the corner of the cage with a handful of seeds or cheerio’s or whatever is their favourite. We went to bed and I held little hope but kept hearing scratching noises so I knew he was around somewhere. In the morning he had taken the bait and was happily having a drink and munching seeds in the box and the book had tipped inside when he stood on it.

good luck, and make sure you keep all your doors shut!

well, the dog food dish and water dish is right here too and thought the same thing and got up at night a few times to check around, but no sign…found the female coming out during the day yestarday heading towards the food and water of the dogs, but have no clue where the male is…have seen no signs at all… their cage is in the living room, so its a big area cause it connects to kitchen and a hallway to the kids bedrooms…

just want to add again that 3 nights ago my hamster had 4 babies! :)

Answer #8

Answer #9

It’s happened to me MANY times with Fifi! (Robovski) She’s small and smart. She bit off the caps that hold the cage together and squeezed out a gap. Once I found her in the main room sitting on top of the Nintendo Wii, I found her in the kitchen on the bin and I saw her in the hallway while I was in the bath. LOL.

mistymorning , Great idea,,,didnt think of that…I have seen no signs of him or heard anything…I put his food in a small dish in the kitchen on the floor along with a hamster salt lick and there has been no sign that he has ever been near it…I dont know…its been a few days now… :( the only water available to him would be the dogs water right in the kitchen, but if he was around the kitchen area, I would think he would of been seen by now. He couldnt get down any vents…they have covers and he is too big to get through them.
