What does emo mean?

I hear ‘Emo’ Means Emo-tional People who are into the Punk scene and Music Scene.

That’s what I heard.

it means emotionally hardcore. NOT EMOTIONAL!!!

not every one whos emo wears black all the time or is always depressed or cuts themselves btw

well emo means emotional.I like emos.im 1 one of them.but my freaken mom doesnt let.but I dont give a pie.she can go 2 hell.

it basically means emotional but its also a style too you dont have to be like “I cut myself” or “I hate the world” or “I should just die” to be emo you can be emo and be the happiest person alive if you hang w/ people who are considered “emo” they probally have black hair styled to one side that covers their eye it can even be a different color then black just as long as the bangs and swept to the side and they probally have lip peircings or nose peircings and wear black eyeliner or black nail polish skiny jeans convers the whole shabang just type in emo and click on pics and you can see kinda the image hope I helped ttyl message me if ya want more ♥Mika♥

Um. some people think that emo means like people whp cut them selves or gives themselves eraser burns. While other people think that its people who listens to like punk music. And other people think that its both.

it actually stans for EMOTIONALLY DEPRESSED and your into emo music like my chemical romance and have dark thoughts, sometimes wish you were dead and basically deppresed. x

man do these people above me really suck balls! it does stand for emotional…which unless your a cold-hearted as.shole, everone can get emotional at times, its a style of dressing nowdyas that can easily gets confused with goth, its a genre of music, its what idiots use as an insualt …but dont be afraid to ask your freinds, im sure theyll give you there veiw of it.

Hey emo means were you are depressed and you cut yourself… So if you hang around emo people they probably cut their rist and it is called a drug bc it is addicting like drugs… so stop them before they go to far

emo is seen by people in such many ways!! I don’t even know what it means sometimes! lol it’s a style of music, a style of clothing, the personality of a person, as well as emo = emotional!! but everyone sees it diffrently! it’s so sterotyped these days!

Emo From my recourses supposedly an Emo was originally just a slang word used to describe some bands that got emotional, originally fans of Fugazi(basically Emo being short for emotional), a post punk band, in mid 1980’s. It later became a sub-genre. Most found it offensive & disliked being labeled Emo. The original Emo is what is now modern day screamo, there were 3 waves. I believe the second wave some how led to the third wave which is modern day. It was basically when new music was cropped under the labile Emo Such as Weezer & such. Origonally thick glasses & plad shirts were common in the style along with fringed bangs & hair. In modern times the fringed hair is still quite common but it now in style to wear black, tight jeans & usually a band t-shirt or some type of design. But if you look hardenough you can tell the style is still kinda related to Punk. During the third wave of Emo it became common for people to slit their selves to ‘fit in’. How that works out I don’t know. Note: not all Emo’s slit themselves. Emo is not a subculture, it’s still a subgenera. Rumor has it, however, that a movement is being made to make it one In my honest opinion Emo is not based on a solid foundation enough to say what exactly is & is not Emo, specially when it comes to terms of music. The basis of emo has been changed twice except for the one basic Emo is short for Emotional. But when you think of it, how can one not be emotional when it comes to their music? Look at Cradle of Filth-their Dooms Metal, 69 Eyes- Romanti Goth, Amy Lee- Plasti Goth, & a lot other musicians.
