Answer #2

Are you freaking serious? I don’t know how many times I’ve said this.

Be yourself, or be fake. Whatever you want.

Answer #3

well if you want the emo look then you just have to wear black clothes but not all those chains on your pants because then you’ll be gothic! and wear black makeup but dont put too much just some black mascara, eyeliner…and since your hair is curly brown maybe you should color it black or just make a ponyhawk! oh and you might want to get rid of the glasses and get contacts =D

If your asking other people how to be or dress/look like something, your a big time poser. BE YOURSELF. Don’t worry about what others think. You shouldn’t try to be something your not. A7x made some very good points so I’m going to have to agree with her on this.

And omgirock - you are 100% WRONG here… your answer was plain dumb and untrue. The stuff you named DOESN’T make you emo or goth. I see why a7x says people need to learn their facts before they say something now… because you clearly have no clue as to what your talking about whatsoever… geez…

But whatever you do luckybanana, DON’T LISTEN TO omgirock! Her advice honestly WAS untrue and plain stupid!!! None of what she said are facts!

Answer #5

Agreed ^ lol

You seriously sound like a poser. Sorry but you do. Don’t ask people how to act or be something. BE YOURSELF. F*ck what others think. Don’t try to be something your not. Most these idiots don’t even know what they’re talking about or know what emo really is all about, you included with what you posted in your question (when you said “not with all the depression and stuff). Being emo DOESN’T mean you have to be depressed/suicidal or cut 24/7. Depression is a MEDICAL condition that needs treatment. Self harm is also a matter that should be taken seriously. Neither one of those things have ANYTHING to do with stereotypes/style. Wearing glasses doesn’t make you emo either, that’s stupid to think it does. Emo is a type of music AND style.

People REALLY need to get their facts right before they say something, most these idiots are full of sht with some of the stuff they say. Take what omgirock said “not all those chains on your pants because then you’ll be gothic!” You fcking idiot… that’s NOT what gothic is all about. And wearing all black ISN’T what goth OR emo is all about. And you know what, for your information - HAVING DYED BLACK HAIR DOESN’T MAKE YOU EMO OR GOTH EITHER! So bottom line is omgirock is full of sh*t and has no clue what she’s talking about honestly. People need to learn their facts before they start ACTING like they know what they’re talking about when they CLEARLY don’t.

You need to just be yourself and not pose to be something your not because no one likes a fake poser.

Get you fcking facts striaght before giving out information on which you know NOT A D@MN FCKING THING about!!!

Also emo also wear bright coloured clothing[neon too] with their dark and very random shirts* eh..not so much, well, mostly modern look, kinda sorta.

Here’s what they are(I know I am an actual GOTH thank you very much. The cahins on the pants are METAL you bigot, look it up!)

Emo was started in 1985 by a post. It was a slang word to describe bands that become emotional on stage. The original Emo band was Fugazi. Most of the bands took it as an insult, but you know how the media is which basically sought to make it a labile. The original Emo is modern day screamo. Fans of this new genre dressed in plaid shirt over a band t-shirt or some other t-shirt, tight black jeans, fringed bangs, & thick black glasses(if they wore glasses). As it began to loose it's popularity the media grouped new bands under neath the labile, thus indie emo was born. Not to long ago, the same thing happened & the style changed a bit. It also become popular for people to slit their wrist to fit into the fad. Now all Emo has become is black tight jeans, black hair, black shirts with childish designs, & going around acting like a melancholic jack-@$$(mention that poser store HotTopic & watch how many perk up though).
Moving on to what Goth actually is for those who have no clue but go around using it as a banal labile to mark what has nothing to do with the Gothic SUBCULTURE.
Way back when, when the Goths sacked the Romans, The Goths attacked with such brutality maliciousness, When the siege was over people began to misuse the term Goth to insult morbid & ugly things.

In the area of Gothic Cathedrals, the word Gothic was to call them dark & morbid. Supposedly some Authors drew inspiration from & wrote about places like these, such as cemeteries, cathedrals, abandoned mansions, places that in other words could be described as Gothic & so was given the title Gothic Authors. In the time of technology, when movie theaters were invented, directors sought to portray stories from Gothic Literature on the big screen(Horror Movies). The characters were often portrayed with pallid skin, darkened eyes, & black/white hair, & usually cloaked in either black or white. in later years after the Post Punk movement a reporter “accidentally” called a Post Punk band Gothic, since they portrayed their self with white faces & darkened eyes, afterwards, due to that little mistake, the Gothic Subculture quickly began to take form: it’s as simple as that.

Now that I’ve explained how Goths got their name & how the Subculture began, allow me to elaborate on the subculture itself & what it is. It is a common misconception that Goths are either suicidal depressed freaks or homicidal maniacs whom go around acting like melancholy jerks, witting &/or reading depressing literature about suicide(attempts), & are usually destructive people. I beg to differ. Goths strive to create weather it be through literate, art, photography, or varies other ways. Goths are usually well mannered polite people, for the sake of being old fashion of nothing else. I wont deny that Goths may read/ write depressing poetry, however, it is not about suicide nor homicide. If we’re reading anything depressing it’s more than likely about tragic romance. We are just helpless romantics after all. Although it may be true, black is the predominant color of the Gothic subculture(white being the second), however the belief that Goths wear trip-pant, band t-shirts, clad in black, & wears more caked on make-up than a celebrity is false. To be honest that since of fashion leans more toward the metal genre. Goths enjoy having an air of elegance & mystery about them rather than looking rough & tough. There are varies types of Goths making it difficult how to “properly dress Goth” while including all the different types. For instance, Renascence Goths embellish themselves in the distant past, while Cyber Goths divulge themselves in the far off future It is believed that Goths are Satanist & claim to be vampires. I have yet to meet a Goth who claims to be either. There is no set religion within the Gothic subculture. 33% are either occult practices, & probably only half that percent are true practitioners & are not just going through a “dark phase”. As for being a vampyre(spelt with a why to deceiver the fans & subculture from real vampires), it has become it’s own subculture. True it may of branched off from the Gothic Subculture, but even back in the day in the early years of the subculture a lot of people shunned them from the Gothic subculture. The belief in Marlin Manson was the original “gothic band”(if one could even call it that), is far from the truth. believe it or not the original “gothic bands” were Post Punk bands such as Sisters of Mercy, Bahaus,& the Banshees. Although they were not originally Goth, they helped the subculture take form in 1979. As years past more genres became added to the subculture such as certain industrial music, certain metal bands, & even classical. The type of band a Goth may listen to depends on their taste, some may listen to music that aren’t considered Goth at all every now & then. Here are some Goth looks actually & there are brunnette emo & Goths(& metal heads) ty very much! My hair is all natural, I DON’T die it, I don’t wear contacts(thwen agian my eyes are already pale blue). Hionestly, BE YOURSELF. There’s almost nothing worse than a scene kid other than a poser. Sounds like you don’t even know about the scene in which you want to dress as whicih would make you a poser scene kid, worst thing ever almost. Serisly, what’s with wanting too look dark & be dark? If it’s not you then don’t try to be what you’re not, point f*cking blank!
