How can I make my 20lb. cat lose weight when diet food isn't working?

I mean hes adorable but I feel bad because he carries so much fat.

Answer #1

Does he go out or is he imprisoned like a lot of our innocent furry friends that we call pets? forgive my tone but my cat who is free to use the cat flap ,and gets the recommended and what seems sufficient 1 can a day food,is slim and actively healthy with out any problems what so ever.

Answer #2

Buy him a treadmill :)

Answer #3

We took him outside once but he didnt like it at all. We have tried for years. We live on a busy street too

Answer #4

My cat lost weight when I reduced the amount of cat food and bought chicken meat (entrails are affordable) as well as insects for him (you can buy grasshoppers in zoo markets to feed snakes and lizards). He loves to munch dead grasshoppers. And if I bring live ones home and put them on the plaster outside, he goes crazy, rotates, jumps into the air as high as my shoulders height and goes berserk to kill them all.

But my cat is an outside kitty, too. So maybe he got addicted to grasshoppers and started to hunt. Never seen him kill any birds though. So chicken isn’t addictive I guess.

Answer #5

He is to lazy to hunt lol and he hates bugs…..hes abnormal

Answer #6

Maybe he’s missing something? Some nutrition deficit that makes him ohlegmatic? Ever asked the vet to check on that? He could do a blood screening to see if kitty misses anything.

Answer #7

Vets tell everyone feed your cat to the size you want him to be. On the back of the bag is a size chart measure the food out. He isn’t going to lose overnight it will be a slow drop in weight. Also you don’t need to get weight loss food. Its the same formula as the original just smaller pieces. This is what the vet said when my dog gained 20 pounds after a surgery.

Answer #8

Well, my other cat was like that too, they are both male tabby’s. He gets enough excersise….i think its his breed…but i dont know
