my friends started a band a few months ago and im the drummer...I kinda know how to play and my bro was gonna start teaching me soon, but im desperate for anything to help...anyone have any tips or some general knowledge I should know? please answer
Practice practice practice. Start out slow, just trying to stick with a simple beat without messing up, then gradually trying to go faster.
I'd suggest getting a metronome so you can progress your BPM (beats per minute.)
Also learn how to correctly hold onto the sticks, a mildly firm grip will do, you don't have to clutch them til you're white knuckled.
Lastly, although wailing on the drums with all your strength is fun, the best way to learn how to increase your speed and accuracy would be a moderate tap on the drum head, letting the tip of the stick bounce up after each hit.
Most of it is common sense, but practice makes perfect.
