Drinking Listerine.

okay, so im a 17 year old female with a life that’s to die for. A loving boyfriend, family and decent lifestyle. I’ve never been diagnosed as a raging alcoholic nor have I ever had a craving for alcohol so strong that I’d do “anything” to get my hands on some. Since 2 months ago I’ve been battling one of the most difficult and yet awkward things in my life. I’ve been drinking Listerine. yes, mouthwash. it feels to me that it can be so uncommon but with the research I’ve looked up I realize I’m not the only one stuck in this hole. I just wanted to know if there are some tips on how to stop because I’ve read the dangers and they are frightening, but like any teen I’m stubborn! It’s sicknening to know how many people I call and txt while im in this situation and immediately forget the next morning. so please, somebody. anybody, help me help myself!

Buy those Listerine strips that you simply put under your tongue. Or, buy some of your favorite kind of gum to get rid of the addiction. I’m surprised you haven’t had a stomach ache from drinking the mouth wash. Another idea to get yourself to stop, buy something that’ll help you have a cleaner mouth. without the burn such as Crest. You can get the Crest Pro Health toothpaste so that way, you don’t have to nessisarily use the mouth wash without drinking it. Good luck on stopping this habbit.

Slowly wean yourself off it, and get those strong minty chewing gum to chew on when you feel the urge to have some Listerine.

Have you heard of a product called Listerine Oral Care Strips? They’re basically thin Listerine breath freshener strips that come in small pocket packs. I think it’ll help you a lot to get over swallowing the actual Listerine liquid which you already know is really bad for you. Here are two links to the product (one is the Actives line and the other isn’t) so you can see what they look like: http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/listerine-coolmint-actives-oral-care-72-strips_1_3584.html http://www.drugstore.com/qxp55651_333181_sespider/listerine/pocketpaks_oral_care_strips_cool_mint.htm

If slowly weaning yourself off Listerine doesn’t work, it’s best to see a doctor to see if he can prescribe anything to get you off the addiction, and also see a therapist to help you through it.

Answer #3

Are you aware of the far greater danger posed by the FLUORIDE in the mouthwash? Too much of this causes FLUOROSIS which causes discolouration of the tooth enamel and later thinning and softening of both teeth and bones and that is on top of the damage that it does to nervous tissue.

That is why alcoholics after drinking mouthwash, eventually lose their teeth, have memory and coordination problems with or without alcohol and suffer fractures and bone erosion.

Still fancy a drink of Listerine or whatever. Time to admit that you have a serious problem and book into AA before you are booked into a hole in the ground.
