Dog Microchipping and the Devil?

Home More advice Religion, Spirituality & Folklore

I work at a animal shelter as manager on weekends, and today I had a really unique situation. I am hoping someone here with more religious inclination can explain to me this customer's views.

He asked if we had any dogs or cats available without a microchip-- I told him that it's our policy for every animal to have a microchip already implanted. It is a small chip about the size of a grain of rice, which is inserted between the dog's shoulderblades with a needle. It doesn't require any invasiveness (no more than a shot). I explained to him that this chip will help him become reunited with his dog, in case the dog ever became lost.

He told me he was against the chip for religious purposes, and was adamant that he get a dog without one. I told him that the shelter in the next county up does Tattooing of a dog's ID number on the animal's leg-- but that the tattoo hurts the dog much more. He said the tattoo would be fine, as it's not "the mark of the devil".

Can someone explain this to me? Does the Bible really mention chipping? I don't see how that technology would be around at that time, but then again, I am not versed in religion. I'm also wondering why a more painful procedure would be "religiously correct." Is the guy just crazy?
