Why does my dog bark at every truck that drives by?

We can’t make him stop barking he goes nuts.

Answer #1

When it is hurtling towards him with all that growling (coming from the engine) and all,

He think it is attacking, so he barks to scare it away from his territory.

As it goes past, he is very please with himself, because he made it run away.

Answer #10

It depends… what kind of breed is he??… if he belongs to a hunting/herding group then it will be is natural urge to chase and he is therefore alerting you to the fact that something is going by.

Answer #11

german shepherd.

Answer #12

Okay, so the german shepherd was originally bred to hunt and guard wasn’t it? It’s most likely then that it is in is his nature to do these kinds of things. I mean, do you also find that he barks when someone knocks at the door, or if you take him out at night, does he seem more alert and growl or bark at the slightest movement. You have to consider thes things. It is probably just due to his breed, you can control these things though but i would recommend doing some reading on dog behaviour and training.

Answer #13

Only circumstances a shock collar should be used is when things are very very bad and the dog is a potantial threat to you or other dogs, cats etc. For little things like barking- no way!
