Does anyone have siblings, friends, etc. who have a disability?

Hello, I was wondering, does anyone have siblings, friends, etc. who have a disability? Well, the reason I’m asking this question is because I have a disability myself and I’m visually impaired and been blind since birth. So, if anyone in your family or friends, have a simular disability, how do you all cope with it? I don’t believe in self pity and, I do fine with my blindness and, I was also wondering, if anyone has a visual impairment like myself, how do they cope? And, would it bother anyone that’s sighted?

Answer #1

I work with children and adults with disabilities..Physical, emotional, developmental and mental. One of my clients is blind and has been since birth. The family of this child is amazing. He has been taught to not expect any special treatment because he is blind, or to feel bad for himself. I’ve learned so much from working with him and his family

My dad has had deteriorating disks for the past 6 years and it’s hard for him to lay down or sit up for too long. He’s in constant pain. The doctors can’t do anything for him but give him pain killers which he doesn’t like to take and they barely help. Somehow he can still stay positive and sane.He is someone to loke up to.

My sister has down syndrome, she is 15, and we all take it in turns teaching her, looking after her, and helping her understand things. She is quite able, because of how hard we all have worked with her throughout her years. It’s not quite like blindness, admittedly, but it is a disability. I haven’t met many blind people, but the few I have met I have become friendly with. It doesn’t bother me at all. Britz

Two of my friends are deaf, and my because has two brain tumors, one wrapped aroud her heart, and a hole in her heart. She’s like 8 years old. And, I think my brothers mentally challenged, but its hard to tell because he’s only 4, but it takes him so long to process information and say what he’s trying to say, it scares me a lot.

Answer #6

I meant to say that my cousin has tumors. sorry.

im Autistic and have CP and Im blind in my left eye and yeah sometimes I wonder what its like to see out of both eyes but by opthalmologist says right now theres nothing that can be done so I trust in that and from what I hear from people fully sighted im not really missing much. There’s all kinds of groups of people you can talk to especially on the internet. Im an advocate, thats how I cope, by helping other people.
