i accidently saved over it
If you're talking about a Microsoft Word document and you saved it, as in updated it, and you DID NOT close the window, you should be able to undo the change with the undo button or (Ctrl + Z). However, there may be a limit to how much you can undo. But if you save the file with the changes and then you exit the program or close the window, I don’t think you can recover the information from before the save.
Search on the name of the document and see if it comes up with a different file name instead of .doc etc. it might come up with .bak or some other file type to indicate that the computer backed up the document before it was written over. You might have to do some editing as this might be an earlier version of the document. Good luck.
Like Mandy said, if you didn't close the window just yet, you still have a chance to get it back by going to File and go to Recent Files and see if it's in there, BUT if you already closed the window and you saved over it, not much you can do unless you made a duplicate of it (another copy).
A lot of the time, Google sends people "here" for their answers. Please don't tell people to use Google - it violates our ToU.
