to get birth control do I have to get an exam
Hi Taylormade,
You should not need to go to a gynaecologist unless there are any underlying health issues you are worried about and don't feel comfortable discussing with your family physician.
As a doctor I know how personal these issues can be. It is my / our job to feed you as much information as possible. As a sexually active young lady I am pleased to see you are taking the responsible steps, however I always advise using a condom as well, as contraceptive pills can not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases.
For a start you don't even have to go to a gynae for birth control. Usually getting birth control does not require an examination, however, some practises/doctors may ask for it but usually, no you don't. Although, if you are having the IUD coil then the doctor will usually fit it. Hope this helps x
