Do You Give Money to beggars?

I used to give spare, but not anymore. It’s not that I’m selfish but the same person has been begging for spare change for the past 7 years. It’s annoying to me because I feel like good people are being taken advantage of because they are new to the area. I’m not saying it’s wrong to give but I would rather give him a sandwich or a drink. What’s your opinion?

Answer #1

You’re right - unfortunately, many now days are fake/false intentions - certainly not all but many - want change or money to buy another bottle or drugs - have no ambition/desire to do better - live off the generosity of good people - better to treat them to a meal, or clothing, etc.

Answer #2

lol, I know a lot of people will hate me for what I’m about to say, but one of my goals for the future is to go to a city, get all dirty and start begging for a month or a week or something. Just see what it’s like.

Answer #3

YES I ALWAYS GIVE MONEY TO A HOMELESS PERSON,

its obviouse that none of you have been on the streets!! Open your eyes guys to the real world, you wouldnt like street life– god you wouldnt last, your too wrapped in cotton wool it seems!!

Answer #4

I will help them out sometimes. I have heard of a guy that keeps cards with different telephone numbers (shelters, rehabs, councellors, free clinics, food banks) that he hands out with the dollar.

Answer #5

How often do you carry a spare meal or spare clothing around with you? I never do. I give them a dollar when I have one, or any loose change. If it ends up going to beer or drugs, oh well, it was only a dollar, and I feel the risk is worth it if in actuality it goes to some food, which is often what those people REALLY do with it.

Answer #6

no. abou 89% of them are actually normal people. people that beg and ask for money make around $100,000 a year. I know you don’t believe it but I did a whole report on t with my fam and some friends. and because it’s non taxable because it’s an act of charitythey get to keep it all. I wouldn’t give money to them ever.

Answer #7

My family saw this man in a ragged shirt, dirty grey hair who was sitting down by a curve, his hands together as if he were praying, and was looking down. We were getting in our car returning home from shopping, and he looked totally real! My dad gave him a few bucks, and my dad said “God bless you” and “take care” after he noticed he WAS praying and he had a cross around his neck. He said “thanks” extremely quietly. It was so sad. :(

Then 1 time we came out of McDonalds and my brother was holding food in the bag, and we saw these 2 woman and 1 was holding a baby. They came up to my brother and begged him for food and she tried to snatch it away. Luckily we just went in the car and closed the doors. They looked fake!

Answer #8

I Have. Cash was more often spent on drugs and alcohal.

Answer #9

I will buy a begger a meal or even new clothing if they need it but I never give them money.

Answer #10

I would rather give them a sandwich or a drink too, but only because I have no idea what they’re buying with the money I’m giving them.

Answer #11

They kinda freak me out. And they either have money, or they have a drug problem. So, no I don’t. I do sometimes to the ones playing guitar on occasion (although I don’t see them very much since I moved to a different city).
