What is the difference between a single-family home and a multi-family home?

Answer #1

A single-family home is a house designed to have only one family live in it. A multi-family home is a house (not an apartment building) designed to have more than one family living in it, in separate units (like apartments) within the house. For example, a three-flat or triple decker would be a three-story house in which each of the three floors is a separate living unit unto itself, one on top of the other. There are, of course, many other multi-family home designs, too.
