What's the difference between a major and a senator?

What does the senator do?

Err…one is for the military and one works for the government? A major is just a rank that you get when in the military. A senator is an elected official that works at the Senate. Like a representative, a senator votes on bills. if they pass both the Senate and the House of Representatives, it goes to the President. If he signs it, it becomes a federal law.
