how is diabetes connected to the liver?

so i heard this guy at the place i work at say has liver problems because he found out hes starter diabetic(type 2). i was worried cause my mom has liver problems and all her doctor says is exercise. while this guy is being refereed to a specialist. i would change doctors but don’t have enough money. so any info can help:)

The liver creates and stores glucose in the body - when it isn’t working at its greatest capacity, it can either develop into type 2 diabetes or affect glucose levels for people who already have diabetes.

Not all liver problems are equal. The liver problems your mother has could be far different than the liver problems your co-worker has - they don’t all end in diabetes. However, obesity is a leading factor in diabetes. I don’t know if your mother is overweight or not, but making sure she stays within a healthy weight range can drastically decrease her chances of developing diabetes … which is why the doctor recommended exercise.

Your co-worker is seeing a specialist because there are obvious issues between his liver and his diabetes, but if your mother hasn’t been diagnosed with having diabetes, then she likely doesn’t need a specialist.
