Denture Advice

I got dentures 6 months and I’m still having problems keeping the upper denture in. I keep choking on it and then they will fall out and hit the bottom one out. What can I do to calm the reflex to choke on the denture? I’ve gone to my dentist and he said the dentures should fit fine. He’ll put them in and they will stay, but as soon as I take them out, I can’t get them back in. Any advice?

It might help if they trim down the back (upper) so it won’t be so long to cause the gag reflex - the gag urge should stop if you cough for a moment - make sure the fit matches your gums, they tend to shrink and you need a good seal…Hope this helps !!

Have you tried using fixodent or one of the adhesives? And I have the same problem myself, and its really really hard to get used to them, and sometimes no matter what, you just cant eat with them. I am considering some implants, and bridges myself, I always say if they arent pemanant in my mouth they wont stay there long. I end up only wearing them while I go out, so the diet and many things have changed. I even tried to wear them at night to get used to them, but have failed miserably. I wish you much success in this, as I know what your going through. Best of Luck to you.
