Defleaing 2 week old puppies

I have read at this web site that Dawn dish liquid can kill fleas. Do I delute the Dawn? What ratio? Is it a regular bath, soap then rinse? Original Dawn in my area is a blue color. Do I use original strength or the concentrated? Mom dog is flea free, but she carries them in from outside. How often can I bathe them with this solution?

We have had two litters and after talking with numerous vets this is what we came up with… Frontline Plus IS ok for a nursing mommy dog, it says that on the package. With our first little in the heat of the summer we had fleas like crazy. My husband and I sat with our feet in a kiddie pool and bathed each puppy, 4 weeks old, one at a time with original, blue Dawn liquid dish soap. – Be careful of their little eyes! – We also used a lice comb to run through their coat while wet and every day from the 2nd day they were born I would run the lice comb through their fur and pull out any and all fleas I could get. We’re on our second little and thank God it’s cold, we’ve only seen a couple fleas!

Yes, dawn dish soap is very mild and that is why it is reccomend for puppies this young with fleas, they are to young to use a harsh flea and tick treatment but they need to be treated because the fleas can make them enemic. This is what we tell our clients at the vet hospital where I work to use. or you can check out the age and weight on Revoluiton. But please to not buy any over the counter treatments, they are harmful. So please only use Dawn

Answer #4

talk to your vet…even at 6-8 weeks, frontline is a bit much for them. at two weeks, there isnt much you can do but wait it out..do not treat the mother either at this point, since any flea meds will pass through in her milk… I dont see why dawn dish soap would hurt and I have heard that it helps, but it wasnt through a vet I heard it…be safe and contact your vet…good luck

Answer #5

I dont know that dawn works or not I think that you should definitly talk to your vet before messing w thazt.. I mean with the puppys only being @ wweks as soon as there 6 to 8 weeks the vet will give you puupy frontline which wroks like acharm..I just got it for my new puppy..after that I know your not supposed to bathe them often because it will wear off the frontline..
