Is my dad racist?

Sometimes when I run errands with him he literally says I look like a freakin’ asian. I’m not asian, I’m Hispanic, a touch of white and Native-American. I put a flower in my hair sometimes and he says I look like a freakin Hawaiian. Seriously!

I don’t think he likes people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. I think a lot of those kinds of people are beautiful, but I can’t understand why he’s been acting this way.

P.S., he wants me to look slimmer even when he says I lost weight, like almost everyday. He also hardly ever calls me pretty anymore like when I was younger. I guess I’m not good enough for him anymore. How can I help him accept how I look?

Oh yeah, he gets mad at me for putting flowers in my hair. O.O

Sounds like your dad has a problem and should seek out thearpy!!! lol. Your dad is also from a different generation so he might not get the fashion (flower in your hair). Just be you, don’t listen to him, parents can be harsh sometimes, and don’t know exactly what they do to us by saying different things. Trying to live up to people’s expetations only make you go crazy trying to be perfect!!! Don’t let things get to you, wear and do what makes you happy! If you feel good about yourself, it shouldn’t bother you what other’s think.

Thanks guys. Your answers were both equally great and I think he just has his own image of what’s acceptable and it’s extremely impossible for me to look like. I’ll ignore him and just do my own thing. :)

Answer #4

Thanks Brooke. You’re just as wise as Mesara. :)

Answer #5

Well my dad is racist..but you should talk him about this & personally don’t care what he thinks..you are yourself, unique.

Answer #6

Thanks. :)

Answer #7

Ignore him dress how you want to dress. No offense but he has issues if hes saying that to you or in that case anybody.

Answer #8

Thanks Amanda. He does have issues.
