Does cutting hair make it thicker?

My hair used to be beautiful.. but now.. it’s really thin for some reason ._. i can only put it in a side pony tail so no one notices how thin it is.. what should i do? :/

Look at your parents heads and if their (either one) hair is thinning then you can blame heredity. I’m on my way to genetic baldness, I had long thick hair when I was younger. Then it got thin on top (turned into a mullet) and I shaved it all off, and that’s me since. Now, when it grows out between shavings, its thin and fine on the top and grows about 1/2 inch per 2 months on the back and sides. If on the head then I’d say cutting/shaving really makes no difference on the rate of growth or thickness of hair as it depends on your overall health and (again) your genetic predisposition for thin hair. Then again I’m male…

Layers are supposed to help “thicken” your hair(or make it fluffier..not too sure), but cutting it just makes it shorter..? I,unfortunately/fortunately, come from a family with thick hair so I don’t really know, but one of my friends has thin hair and she layers it, hence why I immediately said layers… But you should talk to a hairdresser and maybe they can give you ideas or something.

There are many myths surrounding making hair grow thicker and faster. Some people think that cutting your hair makes it grow faster. The truth is, the width of your hair shaft is genetically determined and the average rate of hair growth for most people is 1/2 to 1 inch a month. Tips: Avoid hot water, blow dryers, curling irons and electric rollers to minimize drying and damage to your hair.

Do not wash your hair every day. Shampoo and condition your hair 2 to 4 times a week. The oils that your scalp produces can help to create healthy hair.

Eliminate or cut back on smoking and caffeine to promote healthy hair that grows fast.
