Did cuss words come from pirates or something?

Curse words originate when people began to use them to describe something nasty, there is no proof that pirates ever used words like “shiver me timbers’ or stuff like that, that’s just fiction

Well, cuss words (or taboo words) are a staple part of every language. They often (as we all know) have unclean or sexual connotations or are literally a word for something sexual. So technically cuss words came from everywhere, seeing as we all speak different languages and each one has it’s own naughty words. I will say this though, Ancient Roman (Latin) and Greek language has influenced much of the western world of words, many ‘cuss words’ are likely traceable back to their language. :)

In English, many of them originated from the AngloSaxon dialect words that were frowned upon by the Normans. They became classed as taboo or offensive, simply because they were not used by the upper class elite at the time.
