I have a crush on a guy but don't know how to approach, any advice?

So I recently transferred to a new University which is in a different city about 2 hours then where I lived before. I moved there permanently now. I only know few people that I met at the school and so far it has been great. I met this guy through a mutual friend and he gave rides few times to the grocery store. He told me to shoot him a text or call him if I ever needed anything or wanted to see around the city but never did. He already graduated from the university and doesn’t go there anymore unfortunately. He’s seems a nice guy and kind of got interested in him. So how do I approach him since I don’t see him often and he doesn’t contact me. I kinda feel bad that I only contact him when I need a ride which is rare and only happened twice. What should I text him or say to him to give him the hint that I’m interested in him? He one time asked me if I was seeing anyone and told him I wasn’t but never took it serious since we were kidding around. So I thought maybe he might be interested in me too but doesn’t know how to approach me.
