Critical parents

How do I know if I have a parent that is overly critical? And how do I know if the fact that they were overly critical affected me?

Answer #1

Could very well be it’s because they want the best for you - parents aren’t perfect but they try - so they’re doing their job if they’re looking after your best interests, love you, and Care - many, many, don’t - cut some slack, be Thankful.

Answer #2

I don’t know what you mean by ‘how do I know’, but your parents behaviour will probably affect the person you are.

Not in a drastically personality changing way kinda thing, more just your values and manners and that.

Answer #3

Is your parent like mine? I keep wondering why I try to have a relationship with my Dad when it’s clearly obvious he doesn’t like me. Why else would he criticize practically everything I do, where I live, how I raise my child, and more? Why else would he nit-pick my life and gossip about me? Why else would he continually find fault in what I do and see the negative of my life? I feel that no matter what I do, I can’t win with my Dad and step-mother. And I feel like I have been living my whole life trying to achieve my Dad’s acceptance and approval, which is ironic because in all other areas of my life, I am full steam ahead, confidence, self-assured, and settled. http://thequeenandking.blogspot.com/2009/02/critical-parent.html
