Credit card

Can a credit card charge an account interest after the card member has died. My aunt passed away 2 years ago and we are just now getting funds available to pay off debt.

Does the credit card company know she is and has been dead for two years?

I think her estate is the only entity liable for any of her debts, so who ever is controlling her estate would be responsible for paying the credit card bill from any assets she may have left.

If you are liable, or feel the need to pay off this credit card debt, consider contacting the credit card company, explaining that she has been dead for two years, and explain to them that they have four choices: 1 - Settle the account for a reduced amount which you would be willing to be responsible for; 2 - Turn the account over to a collection agency who is willing to try to collect from dead people; 3 - Charge it off; or 4 - Attempt to sue your dead aunt.

I think you will find that they are willing to settle for a reasonable amount with you.

I’m pretty sure the interest is still charged and there’s nothing you can do to stop that even though shes not alive.
