How do I get a copyright? How do I go about getting published?

Answer #1

You can get a copyright by contacting the Library of Congress, Office of Copyrights, Washington, D.C. …. just do a simple internet search for the proper address and phone number. They will send you out a form to fill out and you most often have to pay a fee with that form to gain your copyright. Usually you sent them a copy of your work so that they can do a research to ensure that it is, in fact, your original work. Then they will send you a reference number that will identify your work where they register it. You did not say exactly what it is that you wanted to copyright.. however, if it is something like music or poetry… then I might offer a sugggestion. Place “all” of your creations into one single book and have that one book copyrighted. In that manner you will only have to pay one single filing fee. Later, if you ever end up selling your works, you can simply extract the single work that you have sold and have that one item copywritten all by itself before the sale. It will save you a few bucks that way. Choose a publisher and contact them for what their guidelines are for publishing your work with them. Remember, just getting your work into formal print, and getting your work published are two different things. Each publisher has similar, but often some differences in how they want work presented to them for publishing. You will need to contact several publishers directly and talk to them for particulars on “how to publish”. Also, there are many different web sites you can check with such as “FindYourPublisher”, or “Publishamerica”…. and many more.
