how can being consitant for a help desk support job be a good skill ???

Answer #1

Being consistent will help you dealing with emotional stress.

If you work on a help desk phone line, people will often call after they failed using your product/ failed making your product work the way they believe it’s supposed to. They will be angry about the product. They paid for it and it doesn’t work as they think it should. And to them, you are the representative, the personification of the failing product that cost them a lot of money. To them, it’s your fault. Many of them will still be nice, knowing that you didn’t sabotage them on purpose. But you’d also get calls like: “YOUR damn company has ruined my weekend!!!” and “THIS CRÄP HERE JUST WON’T WORK!!!”

You need to have a thick hide and be able to just shrug and think that it wasn’t personal and they did not offend you. You need to be able to remain calm. And you need to be able to be nice to the next guy who calls.
