Confused !!!

Was wit my ex (he 23 im 19) for 9 months,everything was going great,he told me he loved me with all his heart and that I was his investment.he was plannin on us getting engaged next yr and going on holidays next yr. We had a stupid arguement where he wanted 2 go out wit his friends bt I wanted to see him on his day off work. He was cryin on the phone and told me I really hurt him and that its over. I went 2 see him same night in work and he sed his parents told him not 2 go in,his eyes were really red and he was still cryin. He kept trying to hug me and sayin he sorry,bt couldn’t look at me,the next day he txt me and sed he give me anther chance bt dunno if he will stay wit me. A week later he came to bring my house key back(as he used to stay over on his days off) and he sed he doesn’t have feelings for me like before bt couldn’t look at me when sayin it,and still tried huggin me and sayin sorry,bt couldn’t look at me when sayin ther no chance.he sat in his car for a couple of minutes watchin me walk off breakin my heart,then went 2 work. 3 months later we hadn’t spoken or seen each other and ended up seeing each other in town,our eyes met and we held contact for couple f minutes then I turned. 2 days later and he was asking how I was by email,and he told me stuff like how he is still single and a change in his career and stuff happening or going to happen in his life and asking about mine. I txt my so called friend (my ex’s bros fiance) and she told me ther no chance and that he told her and that I ain’t even spoken to him when I had. He told me the next day what she sed and told me ther no chance and that its finished. Then I wrote bk telling him I missed him and never sed 2 her I was gettin bk wit him,he told me he had 2 go,bt he was still online and she told me he admitted to crying over me. Why is he bein like dis wit me??? Im sooo confused He also asked me to be friends wit him when he finished wit me and he told me I was his first ever serious relationship. (his bros fiance told me he was a virgin before me). He never had tym 2 cheat on me as he works nights and sleeps through the days and spent his free days with me. Everyone keeps telling me he asks them about me.
